Freezing in Paridise

Canada

We arrived in the far south, on Marco Island on a beautiful day. Before coming here we spent a couple of weeks with my husband’s sisters place in the middle of the state of Florida. Got to see Mylots, Belle Star... We moved on south to spend two sleeps with some good friends from Canada. They took us on the whole tour, and stopped at a lot beaches, and even better some grungy seafood restaurants. It took us about 2 hours to get to Marco Island and we found our highrise and checked in. We are on the 15th floor and facing the ocean, it’s a beautiful condo, quiet with lots of windows and a deck that is huge. We were tired of traveling so we didn’t get in the ocean or the heated pool. The day before today we woke up to howling wind and lots of rain. It was awesome to watch from the 15th floor. This morning the sun is shining but it’s cold outside, we hope by this afternoon we will be warm enough to be in the pool. No matter what the weather is, it’s better than it is in Canada. Enjoy your day, I intend to enjoy my day.

My parents used to spend winters down on Marco Island also. My Dad has a few cousins who own condos down there, and they'd all meet up and spend some quality time together. I hope that you can go swimming later on today. Its so cold out that I am even considering cancelling my hair appointment, I need all of the hair that I've got to maintain my warmth in this weather.

We found this place about 5 years ago. We loved it and decided to come back, it is a lovely island, we love all the ocean to play in. And sea food, no matter where you go here, it has fresh fish to buy and or just eat...

@PainsOnSlate she breaks up the driving over 3 days. They drive about 10 hours each day. I haven't talked to her yesterday but I am thinking she may arrive home today. We got about 4 inches of snow last night and there was a two hour delay at the public school here. I recall reading about when you met up with Belle Star when she met you in Canada.

Belle Star came to Canada last summer and I met her in Niagara on the Lake where I sell my art. She and her husband had been to Niagara Falls (not far from where I live). We met in Ocala a few years ago so this one was the third time we got together. I hope there will be more in the future. I hope your mother is not driving through snow....We flew there and back not wanting to deal with the weather and the hours it takes to drive that far from Canada.

@shaggin when we did that long drive we did it in three days too, so we were able to move around and feel better than we felt when we were younger and drove hours and hours...

You've got that right... I don't know how bad it has to be for the weather to be called a blizzard, but I think that we had to be close!

So, by cold you mean under eighty or something like that? I've no idea where this island is as I've never heard of it before. It sounds like this is a common vacation spot for you? It may be warm enough for us tomorrow to head to the pool too, lol. The pool that may be in our driveway if it does get up to the forties and if the sun is shining. We're hopeful that it will melt some of the inches of ice we have all around, but not so much that we have flooding or that it returns to ice once the sun sets again. I'd rather swim in your pool than the one we may have, though.

@PainsOnSlate That was a short trip then after your other stops in florida and wherever. On that map it doesn't look like an island. It does look pretty close to the mainland of florida, but I know that maps can be deceiving too.

It was cold a few days that made us wear all our clothes, we didn't bring clothes for cold so we often put on layers of clothes to walk on the beach. The pool was heated and huge...

@MarshaMusselman it is an island, to get there you need a bridge, we've been there a few times and loved being so close to the water. We did have a nice time, a bit too cold for a few days but it didn't stop us walking on the beach daily. Now we are dealing with ice and snow in Canada.

So far we are walking on our sandlers and wearing bathing suits, enjoyed the heated pool and still have not stuck our toes in the ocean. Love the area.
