Pheasant Under (behind) Glass!

It's winter. It's cold. I'm staying in where it's warm.
That doesn't mean that I'm not enjoying winter.
Under my current project (of course, it's a quilt) I sit in my living room and watch the birds.
We've observed as many as eight pheasants at one time. It's hard to get a photograph as they are quite skittish.
I keep joking that if we run out of food....pheasant will be on the menu.
Until that time, I'll enjoy pheasant, behind glass!

We will sit and enjoy a coffee while watching the birds flock to our feeders. The rock doves (pigeons) make a lot of noise when they all take off as one. We have had up to 30 at a time grazing on the ground.

@Morleyhunt Isn't it just like being privy to something very special when the wildlife go about their business as if you were not there? I see it as a great privilege to watch 'our' roos drinking from the birdbath and generally doing roo things.

I hope the eagle finds a sizable fish to fill her needs @Morleyhunt

I don't really expect to need to eat one...but we are aware that it is a possibility should the need arise. Meanwhile, we hope the bald eagle that tried to grab one last week finds more rodent like game for his food...or at least birds we aren't as fond of watching.

They are very attractive. I can't say that I've heard their cry. The blue Jays also have an annoying shriek. The pigeons (rock doves) are much more pleasant to hear.

The cold weather can be troubling at times when you cannot travel to the store due to the icy roads.

In this part of the continent we are well prepared for cold weather. Our roads are promptly cleared of snow and salted and or sanded when the need arises. It would be rare for us to. Or be able to get out for more than a couple of hours.

We've had so many birds here....that photo was taken about a week ago. This morning we only saw four males.

Strange that there is no snow on your pheasants. Must be having oily fathers.

There was no snow falling at the time the photo was taken, it would be rare to see snow on any bird.

They are a very attractive bird. We hope we don't need to resort to dining on pheasant either....but we do know it's a possibility if necessary. Meanwhile, well enjoy the show.

We could see some above freezing temperatures again later this week. Too bad it will be accompanied by rain.

They do stand out against the whiteness of the snow. We often can see them in the shrubs next door, picking up the seeds dropped by the chickadees.

On Friday one of those pheasants had to be quick to escape the clutches of a bald eagle. It managed to dart into the bushes....alas....the eagle left without lunch.

Watching the winter birds is a great way to be entertained. I have a feeder and seeing the different birds which arrive each season to eat the seeds is a pheasant, um I mean pleasant way to pass the time.

With patience, in some few months to come you will forget of the winter and every thing will be normal again.
But i pray you will not experience any difficult beyond your control during the winter.
