Favorite "Country" Songs #6 - "Big Green Country"

Time now for a little Neil Jam. I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title, and here we are at the "Country" part of today's discussion. We are at #6: "Big Green Country" by Neil Young. In one of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (and MyLot Music Hall of Famer!) Neil Young's many, many flashes of brilliance, the Canadian rocker chose to record his 1995 album, Mirror Ball (his 21st!) with the members of Pearl Jam (who, minus Eddie Vedder, also served as Young's band on the subsequent tour.) And what a damn fine album! Simply put, Mirror Ball rocks! It was an international success, reaching Top 5 status in six countries, narrowly missing in Germany, where it stalled at #8 (still respectable sales in a country where David Hasselhoff albums routinely hit #1,) achieved Top 20 in three others, and #24 in Switzerland, whose citizens obviously remained a bit more neutral about the record.) Yeah, Mirror Ball is a pretty damn good album! "Big Green Country" was not released as a single, and I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio. It's just more good, solid rock and roll from Neil Young. As if you should expect anything less. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

This rocks a lot harder than most of the Crazy Horse stuff. But that's Neil for you: reinventing himself with every album.

I wonder if working with Pearl Jam invigorated him.

Not a hit, just a great song on a great album.

Neil Young was another artist I didn't really get into, but I do have a couple of his tracks. Not this one though

It's far from being one of his classics, but a good, solid tune from him.
