Why Are Republicans Called Names?

I wish there were no named parties, just people running for office and we get to vote and chose a person. I am noticing that I am getting called names because I like Trump. I voted for Trump and I am not ashamed to say so. I will also explain why, there was no one worth voting for in any of the other parties. We need new ideas and new ways to handle things, I felt that the country was Clinton and Bush enough, had enough of the same old same old. But back to the point, why am I called names for being a Republican? I just read a post that called me dumb. ALL people have feelings no matter how they vote. EDIT : No pointing fingers, I will have to delete, keep all comments civil. The purpose of this discussion is to ask "Why?" why must we be called names by our fellow Americans?

Being a Republican doesn't make you dumb. Even being a Trump fan doesn't make you dumb. What I was referring to was the Trump fans who blindly believe anything he says. He often says obviously untrue things but a huge chunk of his "base" blindly swallow those lies as the truth. That's what I meant when I said they were brainwashed or dumb.

But that is also a bit narrow minded. I praised Obama when he deserved it. I chastised him when he deserved it. I do the same with Trump. No one is blind on the Trump side just because he is supported. Believe me when I tell you that conservatives hold their people WAY more accountable than liberals EVER do when their guy gets it wrong. You can see examples of this all the time. No one on the left calls out Maxine Waters for being completely irrelevant and ignorant. BUT, when Joe Wilson, a republican, yelled "You lie" at Obama during his State of the Union address, conservatives lambasted him and his career was essentially ruined. We do not stand behind people who are wrong on the right. But people on the left will REPEATEDLY stick with someone who is wrong on the left.

@NJChicaa I'll give you Al Franken. But there are countless other democrats who have gotten a free pass. I am not going to say that there aren't bad republicans out there. Of course there are. I am simply saying that more often than not democrats will defend bad democrats than hold them accountable, or even acknowledge that they are bad. Hell, Bill Clinton easily falls into that category, and he is still mostly revered by most democrats. Hillary Clinton is another story. Wow, the things SHE did and democrats not only nominated her, but would have gladly had her as president. It boggles the mind.

I also vote by the way a candidate talks and just couldn't take anymore of Hillary so I voted Trump as well. Do I believe everything he says, no but we did need a change and he has done some good things whether people want to believe it or not. Some are so blinded for their hate for him that they won't even admit he has done some good. I too get sick of the name calling, what ever happened to everyone is allowed their own opinion. I lost a good friend of over 30 yrs because of it, she is so blinded by hate she gave up our friendship because I didn't believe the way she did. So sad, and they wonder where all the hate is coming from.

One thing he did that was just awesome, he took the penalty away for those who could not afford insurance, Each year I had to pay more and more at tax time because I could not find the money for the "enforced health insurance" That bill Obama put in was putting middle class people in the poor house. That is sad about your friend. Hate is horrible.

@andriaperry Its on our tax papers this year and I am hoping we don't get charged, we were without for 8 mths while my husband looked after being laid off. He also donates every paycheck he gets to a worthy cause, no one talks about that. Thank you, I miss her dearly but just couldn't talk to her anymore. Her heart is so full of hate.

I do not care what anyone else votes for. Everyone votes who we hope will be the best. Everyone is trying to make the best decision possible. There is absolutely no reason people need to be so nasty when it comes to politics. A friend of mine unfriended ever one of her friends who voted for Trump. She said she didn't want to be friends with anyone who would vote for him and she meant it. I thought it was absolutely terrible!

It goes both ways. I unfriended a few people the first time Obama was running. One of them I grew up with. He went as far as to say anyone who votes for Obama was a communist.I told him it didnt matter who voted for whom as the last I checked this was still a free country to choose. I agree that doing away with the parties might help. Just take the top 2 or 3 from the primaries and then we pick from them. I missed that post and am glad I did.

I think it would help all way around. Words like control would be of the past and they would have the old 5 no to 5 yes. I have never bashed anyone for who they vote for, its our right.

Eh, you aint dumb and you know it. Name calling is dumb, as if anyone ever has been defined by one idea or thought or vote or name/label. I didn't vote for Trump but simply put I totally agree with you that our governmental tree needed some serious shaking up. We're getting that and perhaps we'll see a little more sanity in future elections.

when we had our own presidential election, it also caused a division/broken ties among families, longtime friends, workmates, neighbors, etc. maybe the internet and social media played a role in it and still feeding it because past elections didn't blow things up like this before. life and people went back to normal. now, not anymore.

The people that called your names were stupid and do not think that you have a right to your opinion.

Republicans were called names, to me that is calling me a name, there is always a way to express an opinion without calling names.

I think it goes both ways and I agree with you that parties should not exist, only candidates and you vote for the one you like more.

That is an old saying "If it is not true, then let it go." Some people at Buddylist.com told me that being insulted is a sign of emotional immaturity.

Well I suspect the easiest answer here has two distinct responses. 1. The rise of digital rude. (it is ok to say something online that YOU WOULD NEVER say in person). 2. Negativity. Now, the 2nd one, in part was fed by the 2016 campaign. But I believe the first issue continues to drive the 2nd. Sorry you've been called names.

@DocAndersen If I recall, the leading democrat in the race said anyone who would vote for Trump was deplorable. Yes. Indeed. It IS a two way place.
