I have a friend that was living with a man and taking care of him. He passed away a year and a half ago. She was kicked off the land and told to vacate the premisses, (by his children), that she shared with him. She had been living there for a few years. The children shut off utilities, phone, ect. The house and items went into probate, along with all her belongins. She was not alowed to take but a handful of items and was told by the sherriffs dept. that was there that day that she could only take the minimum, let the courts decide, their hands were tied. She had several horses titled in her name and reciepts showing she was the sole owner of them.. The family took them as well. She hired a lawyer but he still has done nothing, even after paying him. No lawyer in town will listen to her because we live in such a small town they said it is a conflict of interest. Now so much time has passed it is too late for her to do anything like hiring another attorney...what can she do??

If it went through the probate period it will be to late but if it hasn't then she still has a chance. Have her hire an attorny from a different town. As long as the attorney is from that state she can use anyone. I went through the same thing. My dad passed away and his live in got everything. There was a life insurance policy that was suppose to come to his kids but somehow she forged our names and got the money. We didn't have a leg to stand on. My dad's will said she got it all but we think she redid the will while he was sick and had him sign it not knowing what it was but That's hard to prove.
