How Difficult is it to Recover Money you Borrow to a close relation

One of my principles in life is i do not borrow money to close relations. When a close friend ask me for a loan I always try to contribute to help solve their problems by giving them either 1/4 or 1/2 of the amount they asking of me for free depending on the gravity of the matter at hand and let them figure out the rest for themselves. I do this to avoid future problems. I learned the hard way from experience that lending money to friends and family is very difficult to recover. familiarity gets in the way and some won't even care paying back.You will ask over and over and over again, what pains the most is you can not aggressively request for the money same way you will do with a stranger or business partner and that hurts
