Sometimes it's just common sense

I saw this on FB and thought, "How true!" My daughter, granddaughter and I used Uber several times when we were in NYC, but at least we were surrounded by several thousand people at the time! I kinda think the old advice about not getting in cars with strangers and not meeting up with someone you met on line is still the best advice. Uber or not.

I can't drive much because of eye problems. I have taken Uber only for necessary things. They are very expensive and the drivers always get lost and they end up taking more out of Paypal than we agreed on. The drivers have been polite but friendly. A couple of them told me their life history while driving around looking for the destination.

We've joked about this since my son has had to resort to Uber a few times to get to school. The Air Bnb is another set up that concerns me. My girls have been taught to be careful and that there is a certain amount of security in numbers.

@1creekgirl I find it interesting to watch the group of friends my girls are part of. Some of them have been taught to be overly cautious...to the point that they are almost afraid of their own shadows. Some of the others are not cautious enough... Of course, my girls have the right balance (). I have to admit though, over the years I have been accused of being both too lenient and too over-protective. Everyone has to ultimately figure out what works for them.

@UncleJoe like everything else there needs to be a certain amount of caveat emptor.

Good points. I hadn't thought about that. We've used Uber a few times and have felt safe.

Ah yes, that is sort of ironic, isn't it?

We just live in a more dangerous world now. I wouldn't think of picking someone up or hitchhiking myself.

Yes it is dangerous to talk to strangers and ride a car that you are not familiar with those who are there.Especially now a days, you can't just trust anybody like that.

I agree. Uber has regulations, etc. but I don't totally trust them.

@1creekgirl The rides are tracked. They know exactly where everyone is at all times.

I have never thought of meeting a stranger from the internet alone or in a secluded area

I know a lot of people use dating online sites to meet people, but it can really be dangerous.

Yes, it happens now, and we just wish that Uber or Grab drivers would stick to proper norms in their driving duties.

Yes common sense is lacking a lot these days.
