A strange book

Some days ago I picked up the 3 library books I had ordered. One of them is August by Judith Rossner, the other two are a Danish and a Swedish book. I started reading the Danish book. I have only read a few chapters so far, but the book is extremely hard to understand. I couldn't find much information about the book online because it is quite old and unknown, but as far as I understand it is a story about a little girl who is mentally ill. The sentences don't make much sense. I think that author has it written it that way on purpose and that it is meant to illustrate the girl's unusual way of thinking, but I simply don't understand it at all. I asked my husband to read a few pages and he had the same experience as me, he didn't understand the story at all. I might give the book one more chance and read a few more chapters, but I don't expect much. Have you ever read a book that was so strange or hard to understand that you didn't want to finish it?

When i read books, first paragraph of the page 1, is the most critical. When i find it boring, i stop reading it. So far, only few novelists can hold my attention. But the best of all is Sidney Sheldon.

I haven't read any of Sidney Sheldon's books, but I know that he has written quite a lot of books. I agree with you about the beginning of the book. It is very important how the book starts. Sometimes I like a book right from the first page and sometimes I get a negative impression from the start.

Yes, an Italian book, it was set in the Middle Age and about a man who had to save an old book traveling through different countries. It was so complicated, with so many characters that I was totally lost. It's one of the few books that I stopped reading.

Too many characters can be a problem. I remember a book that also had a lot of characters. I think there were too many characters and too many subplots, and it was hard to keep track of everything. I would have liked the book better if the author had focused more on the main characters. The book alsol seemed a bit unrealistic. I finished it, but I didn't like it much.

@LadyDuck That sounds confusing. In the book I read the characters had ordinary names, but there were too many of them, and it was hard to figure out what the main plot was. Another thing that annoyed me about the book was the inaccurate information about healthcare. I am pretty sure that the author didn't work in this field and didn't do a lot of research, because she was wrong about many things.

@Porcospino The characters of my book also had weird names difficult to remember. I could not focus on who was doing what and I got bored to read it.

I have read a few of them, and I usually gave up if the book was too hard to understand. Sometimes I tried to give the book the chance and read a bit more, but if I still don't understand it I don't want to read the rest.

@lady1993 Maybe I think I am going to read a few more chapters because I decide if it is worth finishing it.

@Porcospino do tell if you ever finish reading this one and finally understood it. Maybe it makes more sense near the end

yeah. I stopped reading a book called Druids (I think that's what it was called). I had thought it was about something, but I was wrong and stopped reading it. I also stopped reading a book series called Fearless because it got too stupid.

Sometimes books are different from our expectations. I have experienced that. I remember one book that I read. I thought that it was going to be a realistic story about a family, but it was actually a book that belongs to magical realism. When the author introduced fantasy creatures in the story I lost my interest in it.

Yes, if the book is difficult to understand and I feel like I am wasting my time I gave up of it.

Sometimes that is the best thing to. Some books are very confusing and hard to understand. If I feel that I am not going to enjoy the rest of the book I usually give up.

Yes, I did not understand a book. I read every book to the end, but sometimes I'm disappointed.

I have experienced the same thing. Some books sound interesting when I read the description, but when I read them I become disappointed. Sometimes I read a book and I know that I am not going to read it again, so I usually donate them to charity instead of keeping them.

@Nevena83 Yes, the book shelf is already too small I have to keep some of my books in a box because I don't have enough space for them.

Sometimes that is the best thing to do (to avoid reading the rest) I have done that sometimes when the book was too confusing or hard to understand.

I do the same. If the book is too strange or too hard to understand I usually give up. The book that I am reading at the moment is one of them. I don't think I am going to finish it.

I've come across books that didn't hold my attention but can't say I had to put a book aside because it was hard to understand. Of course I haven't tried reading anything from other nationalities

The beginning of the book is important. Sometimes I open the book and read the beginning before I decide if I want to read the rest of it. I like some books from the start and sometimes I get a negative expression from the start.
