The 31st annual Colombiatex de Las Américas, a textiles trade show, was held January 22-24 in Medellín, the second-largest city (after its capital, Bogotá) in the country of Colombia, South America. About 600 brands and 14,800 buyers from almost 60 countries were expected to be part of Colombiatex de las Américas 2019, held at the Plaza Mayor Convention and Exhibition Center, a venue that measures more than seventy thousand square meters in the city of Medellín. According to Inexmoda, 22,482 people from 52 countries attended the Trade Show, and more than 1,300 appointments between buyers and exhibitors were made. A great feature this year was the Ruta de la Sostenibilidad or “Route of Sustainability”, a special tour of featured companies for media, high-level buyers, and government agencies to discover what industry-leading companies are doing to excel in sustainability issues over the rest of the sector. Sustainability, or environmentally-friendly practices like dyeing processes that save water or recycling plastic bottles into polyester and nylon yarns (the company pictured, Unifi, does that), is the big trend in textiles and in business in general. It's great to see people doing work to save the environment!
