Same food or different food?

Last week my husband and I celebrated our anniversary, and in the evening we had dinner at a restaurant. We don't don't eat out that often, but when we do we tend to pick the same restaurants. This year we had decided to try something different, but we ended up at one of our favorite restaurants because we both love the food (a huge Chinese buffet) The other restaurants aren't close to our home, and it is expensive to park near them, so the restaurant in our area was the most convenient choice. Next time we would like to visit the Turkish restaurant or the Croatian restaurant. We have to drive a bit longer to get there, but we would like to try some of their dishes. Do you like try new kinds of food or do you prefer to stick to the food you already know?

We are adventurous, when we lived in Monte Carlo there was an excellent Turkish restaurant, also a real Vietnamese that offered very good food. I like to try food from other countries.

I also like to try food from other countries. I like Turkish food. There is a new Turkish restaurant in the main city of my island. I would love to try that one. They have both a buffet and a la carte dishes. Vietnamese food also sounds nice. We have several Vietnamese restaurants here, because are many Vietnamese immigrants in my country.

@LadyDuck We used to have a very good Vietnamese restaurant here. I celebrated one of my birthdays there. That restaurant doesn't exist anymore, but there are other Vietnamese restaurants. Some of them serve a combination of Vietnamese food and Chinese food. When I was in Vietnam I had a lot of fish dishes and many places sold fish and rice instead of chicken and rice.

I am less adventurous than when I was younger, I stick to the same restaurants and test a new one only when a friend recommends it.

I still like to try to new restaurants, but I think that I am also less adventurous than I was when I was younger. In the past I sometimes visited international restaurants and ordered new dishes without knowing anything about them, today I would probably ask the waiter what kind of dish it was.

@topffer In my own country it is easy to ask the waiter. In Asia it was a challenge sometimes, because some of the waiters hardly spoke English and they didn't understand the questions. I have never experienced the situation you described. I have often experienced a situation where the waiter said: "Sorry, we can't make that dish today, please choose something else" but it is not okay to give you something else without asking you first. I wouldn't have gone back to that place either.

@Porcospino I never ordered dishes without asking what it was. I went once in a Polynesian restaurant and ordered a dish of fish. When the plate came I noticed that it was meat. I asked the waiter, and he told me : "We have no more fish, it is pork, but it is prepared exactly the same way." I never came back in this one.

@amitkokiladitya Yes, we have been disappointed a couple times because the food wasn't as good as we thought that it would be.

Sometimes it is nice to eat the food we already know, because we know that we like it. That is one of the reasons why we chose the Chinese restaurant for our anniversary. Their food is delicious.

That sounds like us. I am more adventurous than my husband. I am usually the one who suggests new restaurants, but my husband says that he has become a bit more adventurous since he met me.

@Janet357 Yes, he is more open to new experiences now. Before we met he didn't eat out very often. Now he enjoys it a lot. We have found some places that we both like, but we also visit new places.

@Porcospino that quality has been rubbed off on him. Women are great influencers on their husbands.

Yes, I love to do that when I travel. I wouldn't eat anything, but I am willing to try many new things as long as they aren't too extreme.

@Nevena83 Yes, I would skip the most extreme dishes. I have visited places where they sell dog meat, but I would never eat that. That would be too extreme for me.

Thanks We agree about this topic. I love to eat the local food when I travel. I think that it is really interesting to eat food that isn't available in my own country. I am willing to try many different kinds of food, but not everything. When I visited Cambodia I didn't want to try the fried spiders

@LowRiderX I saw many kinds of street food when I was travelling around in Asia. Some of them sold insects, and we couldn't even tell what kind of insects it was. I know that they are considered a delicacy in some places, but I prefer other kinds of food

Yes, I like Chinese food. Sometimes I visit the Chinese restaurants in my country. My favorite restaurant has a big buffet with many different kinds of Chinese food. It is almost hard to choose and sometimes I eat too much.

A recommendation from someone can be a good way to discover new dishes. Some time ago one of my friends recommended a new dessert he had tried. It was really delicious, now I often buy it
