I Hate Dealing With the Department of Motor Vehicles

Since I moved to North Carolina, I have been trying to get my car registered here. It's different than California. There is a license plate location that is separate from the Department of Motor Vehicles where I got my Driver's license (that was easy). The problem is, I need the title for my car, and I don't have it. We paid off the car years ago, but apparently there is an electronic hold on the title from the financing company. I called the financing company, but all they would do was send me a paper release. I talked on the phone to the California DMV, and they told me to just send that in, and they would send me the title. Apparently that was not true. Since the title hold was electronic, it had to be released electronically. So, I talked to someone at the financing company today who says that she has arranged for the lien to be released. Fingers crossed that this will work.

@Tampa_girl7 Thank you. In my opinion, the writer of the post should explain this. MyLot is an international site, not an American one.

The first time I went to renew my license here in NC, the line was so long, I left. Went back the second time and was told I needed my marriage certificate, birth certificate, and proof of residency. Okay, went back the third time and was told my marriage certificate wasn't legal. (Have I been living in sin all these years?!) Got so aggravated with it all, including the rude attitude of the examiner, I said, "Just give me the "not" real one.

@1creekgirl I was feeling like I'd done my homework and knew all that was needed, so I was disappointed to learn that my marriage certificate was not good enough. It made no difference that every other card I had in my wallet had my married name on it.

The lines in California were long too. When I went to get my Driver's licence, they told me it was a three hour wait. I just went home and came back 30 minutes before they close. Almost everyone was gone, and I got my license waiting less than 20 minutes.

I hate the DMV in NC. I went to get my license renewed and that man was so rude and hateful. Best wishes with your progress.

@norcal That's exactly what happened to me! I was going to get the official one, but had to send away to get another marriage certificate. I just went with the "not real" one.

I'm sorry to hear that. The person I dealt with was pleasant enough. My only problem was that I was trying to get my "real ID" at the same time, and I had to prove why my name didn't match the name on my birth certificate (which I had brought with me). I had a marriage certificate with me, but apparently it was not official enough, it didn't have the state seal on it. So, I had to send away to the state I was married in to get the official one. I still have not gone back for the "real ID."

I understand that, and having moved to and changed cars four times because we crossed a state line, I feel your pain!!!!

Thanks for your understanding. It's so frustrating, and my CA registration will expire soon, so I may have to pay California for another year just to avoid the headache of trying to transfer an unregistered car.

If you move from one European country to another is a real big pain to arrange all the necessary changes. We had to provide all the original documents here when we moved from France.
