Looking for Gown Designs

The wedding of my granddaughter will be on April, but this early I have to look for some gown designs which I will ask my dressmaker to sew for me. I would not like to wear a formal gown but I could not decline her plea for me and my husband to stand also as one of their major sponsors for the wedding; the so-called godparents. I told them we are already too old to be godparents so they should rather pick those who are younger, but they insisted saying they really like us to be part of the church ceremony. So am looking for simple yest elegant long dresses/gown designs for big women. Am also trying to be so frugal now that we are relying only on my husband's pension, so buying an expensive wear is a no, no for me.

The daughter of our neighbor ordered her wedding gown from Lazada and it was very affordable but good. That was more than a year ago.

Does it really fit her? I am afraid to order clothes online.

There was a time when we used something called 'princess cut dresses'. It was a tight bodice but not too tight. It could be a long dress and the beauty laid more on the material of the garment as the cut itself was easy. There are many materials that can be used for that

Thank you for the suggestion. I am still looking for designs and discuss first with the dressmaker on what material to be used.

@acelawrites I think that a too light material will show some of the things I want hidden. But it depends on your body.

@marguicha Yes, the dressmaker can use a thicker lining made of cheaper cloth too.

Thank you for those words. It's a blessing they say; and we are glad they wanted us to be their "second parents."

How exciting and congratulations to your granddaughter! I think a simple gown is very elegant, and you can easily have it shortened after the wedding to get more wear out of it.

My dressmaker and I had already talked about it and she will accompany me to the fabric store to choose the material.

Wedding planning is such fun, but also very stressful. I did that with my two daughters. They were such wonderful experiences, but I'm really glad I don't have to do that again.

I hope you are able to find something you like that isn't too dear. Isn't it nice that you were asked to be part of the wedding group?

Yes we will be part of the entourage; as principal wedding sponsors. My dressmaker and I will still look for cheaper and good clothing materials.

She likes us; maybe she had seen how my husband and I raised our family! It's flattering.
