Therapy Or Medication (Which Is More Effective?)

I think in general, a combination of psychotherapy and psychiatric medication(s) are what's best for overcoming serious mental health issues. But I know some folks who believe that recovery from mental illness is really more with the medication, not talk therapy. They think that a lot of it's biological because many people you can't reason with. I think they have a point. However, if you get someone who gets on medication that works well for him/her, and if that person does what they can to help themselves, the therapy can be quite effective. What do you think?

It can be a combination of both medication and therapy; it will work very well, I think.

I don't know. It seems like most of the people I know who have serious mental health issues refuse treatment and don't get better.

I think it's more of a case by case thing. Not everyone is going to benefit from the same things. Each person's mental wellness is different. Sometimes even the medicines do more harm than good. I do believe that the medicines help but that they can also harm. As for talk therapy? Even the most lucid of individuals might have difficulties with therapy like that. It's not for everyone.
