Pick the fake

In 2010, we spent some time in Ireland with good friends. We travelled round the south of Ireland and one of the places we visited was Waterford where the famous Waterford crystal is made. We were able to do a tour of the factory and watch the craftsmen creating the beautiful pieces for which Waterford crystal is famous. Later, we visited the shop and each purchased a piece or two as a memento of our trip. Here, you can see a worker and our friend inspecting a crystal glass. However, one of the figures is a wax model. Can you guess which one? Well it's pretty obvious I guess. Our friend isn't likely to be wearing an apron, is he?

I'd love to go round that factory, it must have been so interesting. And yes the apron is the giveaway, but without that I'd have had difficulty - he looks so real.

They make them so lifelike don't they? Not like some of the taxidermy things I've seen.

The only reason he looks so real is due to the climate in our part of the world resulting in everyone adopting a pale, waxy complexion.

@WorDazza Out of curiosity (I'm like that) I looked up average rainfall for both Manchester and Edinburgh. Considering Scotland's reputation as a wet area of the UK I was surprised to see that Manchester wins with a rainfall of 929m against Edinburgh's 668m. Who'd have thought?

@ThreeTeddies Indeed. We 'benefit' from Manchester's unique geographical position nestling at the foot of the Pennines which is the perfect location for clouds on a prevailing westerly to dump their rain. I don't think we're the wettest place in the UK but I believe we do get the most rain during daylight hours!!

We've been to Waterford, too, and bought a few items after touring the factory to add to our crystal glass collection. You can never have enough. We had a Waterford crystal lamp shipped home for our guest bedroom. It's stunning!

I can imagine the lamp is really lovely. We bought a decanter and six glasses. Thank heavens we didn't have to cart it around with us. We had it shipped home too.

You are VERY lucky. I thought you were going to say 'one is wax and the other is fake!' haha so it's lucky you didn't say that. It's okay to say we don't exist but not okay to say we're fake. :)

They did a really good job on that wax figure. I think that I would really enjoy touring the Waterford shop as well. I've always loved their quality and beautiful crystal, I have Waterford crystal as my "best" crystal.

@JudyEv Yes they do. When choosing my china, I went with what I knew from home, Royal Doulton, and they are the very best in the china world and then actual real silver for my silverware, and the topping was the Waterford crystal. I did receive quite a few place settings of my china for wedding gifts, but no crystal or silver-too expensive I guess. We have added the pieces ourselves, and since we've learned how difficult cleaning silver is, I choose another pattern of flatware that doesn't tarnish.

I vote that the crystal piece the guy in the apron is holding is fake. It's obviously a wax imitation. Did I win the prize? haha
