If you wish to be an unwelcome houseguest it is critical that you assume that house rules and customs do not apply to houseguests.
If your hosts stop to take their shoes off when entering the home and neatly set them on a rack filled with other shoes, or pick them up and carry them off to a closet in another part of the house, it’s pretty clear that those hosts just might be annoyed if you stomp in with your street-dirty size twelves and proceed to walk across the carpets to a place where you can plop down and prop your feet up as you relax
If your host home is occupied by people who are not on vacation (unlike you, the houseguest) make sure you tie up the bathroom and the hot water supply by taking lengthy showers during those busy early morning hours when people are scurrying to get to work and school on time or, alternatively, at bedtime when the residents are trying to get settled to rest before another busy day. Oh yes, make sure you take LONG showers to spend at least 30 minutes tying up the plumbing and the hot water supply.
Over the years most of our houseguests have not be particularly skilled at making themselves unwelcome, but there have been a few...

@SophiaMorros Sure when someone doesn't follow the rules it somehow becomes an inconvenience to the host

I have only had houseguests for short periods of time and it has always been a stressful time if they do not go by house rules.

I does make things very stressful for the host. I'm sorry you've had to experience that.

I feel times have changed. When I was growing up, most women didn't work outside.
Now it is a hectic rush in the morning with the entire household in a rush to leave in the morning and guests have to be aware to fit into this milieu.
I have had a few who are a real pain and expect "old world courtesy".
They treat our homes as theirs but that is not reciprocated, not that we behave like that anyway - siva
