Should kids be given an allowance (weekly money)?

I didn't get an allowance as a child. My parents lived from paycheck to paycheck and gave me money for non essentials when they had it to give.

If the parents can afford it then yes, also if the kids are good. If they help out and do what they can when they can then yes. I got 10 cents for every year I was old. Then as I got older I got what I needed. If I was going to a movie I could get like $10 or $20.

I think it is up to the parents to decide whether or not they wish to, it is not a "should" thing! I grew up in a modest home where money was not around to give, but seem to enjoy without it. A small amount if chores are done is nice as it gives the child a bit of independance, but it should not be expected!

sometimes i think that they should. i think it all depends on what chores that they have, i know that i did recieve a small one when i was younger.

I think if you can afford to give your child an allowance, it's a good thing. It teaches them the value of money, and how hard you have to work for it. Assuming of course that you make them do chores and not just hand it over without them having to work for it.
