@JohnRoberts wrote about Jimi Hendrix yesterday and that had me hunting through my photo collection.
Hendrix was brought to the UK by his manager, in 1966, and soon had a reputation as a powerful live performer. He moved into London's Mayfair at 23 Brook St (above the Peal shop in the left photo), in 1968, with his then girlfriend after spending the summer of that year touring and recording in the US.
Separated by some 210 years, his neighbour would have been the baroque composer GF Handel. On learning this, Hendrix brought albums of Handel's music including Water Music and Messiah.
Like so many bright candles, Hendrix would die young, aged only 27, from a barbiturate overdose. Once again, back in London he passed away in the basement flat of the Samarkand Hotel, in Notting Hill (the far right photo)
He was interred at Renton, Washington, with his mother.
His old flat, in Brook St, has been restored as he would have known it and is open to the public. Next time I am in that part of the world I shall pop in and grab some photos.

I sure wish he did not die. Jimi was a big part of my teenage years.

That I would like to see just the same as Morrison's resting place in France.
