Day 2 1 Corinthians 2 1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to naught: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Have you set your mind and heart to know one thing and know it well? Have you set everything else aside and gone after the knowledge that will open doors and give you access to what you crave most? Paul treated the Word of God in such a way. He didn’t want to know anything except what God taught him. He wanted to know Jesus Christ fully so he could present Him to people eager to know Jesus as their Messiah. In his search, Paul discerned two types of people, those of the world, and those in Christ. Those marked with the spirit of the world, and those marked by the Holy Spirit. As Christians, you know those marked with the spirit of the world, walk not after the things of God, but after their own lusts, following the god of this world, Satan, who keeps the hearts and minds of the people from knowing the truth about Jesus Christ and Him crucified for their sins. They live in spiritual darkness unable to see or understand the things of God. You were once like them, until someone showed you the truth and you learned about God’s love for you, and you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, becoming spiritually discerned, able to know the truth. Paul showed that when you search out to know God, reading and studying God’s Word, you will find the truth and you too will be spiritually discerned because the Spirit of God lives in you. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. You have the mind of Christ when the Holy Spirit lives in you. You have the ability to search out and know the mind and will of Jesus Christ. You have the power of the Holy Spirit to draw men to Jesus so they too will come to Jesus Christ, accepting Him as their Savior. It is the Holy Spirit who draws people to Christ. Become a willing vessel of the Holy Spirit, ready to learn all you can so people will know you belong to Jesus Christ and they will want to know Him also. Let’s pray: Lord, teach me. I am hungry to know all You can show me in Your Word. Help me discern the truth from the lie. Satan has no power over me because the power of the Holy Spirit lives in me. Lead me, Lord, to those who are hungry to know You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 15 March 2019 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
