Today, In class, I discussed safety rules. In our school, at the beginning of an academic year , we spend some classes discussing about safety rules and other important rules that children should follow and also how they should behave. I mainly explained them safety rules to be followed in school. ~Why they shouldn't run while climbing up or down the stairs ~Not to play in the classroom as by mistake they may push benches or chairs injuring someone. The furniture may fall on someone's leg. ~Not to jump from really high spots ~Not to push each other ~Not to slide down the stair case railings and many more Do you have such classes in your school?

@andriaperry We had safety rules classes when I was a student but it wasn't an important part. Nowadays, in the school that I teach, it is an important part of guidelines, I guess..

The bigger question I guess is if students would follow and how to enforce and sanction those who don't.

I remember this as part of the normal classes and not as "safety rules", those were normal common sense rules that parents used to teach to their kids before they started going to school.

@Sheali Sure, the "safety rules" we learnt in school were a bit different, duck under a table in case of earthquake, stay away from the windows, do not use the lift if there is a fire and so on.

I used to teach the same things on the first day of school and reminders throughout the year. It's very important that these rules, among others, be followed.

@DianneN That's currect// Even though students know the rules, regular reminders help them to follow those rules and not take them for granted

@Sheali I remember that no one was allowed to run on the concrete paths around the classes to prevent people being bumped into or falling over on hard ground. And stuff like, "If you see a needle in the sand, do not touch it and get a teacher straight away." And always wear a hat when being outside in the sun. I'm sure there were others.

The academic year started for you. Here it is on April 4 for most of the schools. Some schools strated in the month of March. Explaining safety rules on the first day is very common and important thing.

As far as I could remember, we just have brief learning about them and do the actual drill about safety at school.

This is a good class. Every school must have one such classes. But very few are them. So sad that today people are less careful about safety rules.

I don’t recall a class on Safety Rules though we had Earthquake preparedness as well as what to do if you are trapped on the school bus in an accident!
