A REASONABLE AFFLICTION  Mathew Prior 1718 On his death-bed poor Lubin lies; His spouse is in despair; With frequent sobs, and mutual cries, They both express their care. "A different cause," says Parson Sly, "The same effect may give: Poor Lubin fears, that he shall die; His wife, that he shall live." ----- MALUSE's Version 2019 On its death-bed the computer lies; Its owner's in despair; Husband is glad, but MALUSE cries, They both express their care. "A different cause," says Parson Sly, "The same effect may give : Poor wifey fears that it will die; But hubs, that it may live." -------------------------------------- This is an invitation to take part in a challenge. The task is to choose an English poem and write a parody on it using the same stress and rhyming pattern. ----- Click on the green bar at the top of this site to find my other poem parodies. ----- Piccie: pixabay

What a very interesting challenge. I love poetry. I will have to find a good poem to do this with.

Well shame on me, I will give it a try later but right now I am just not in the mood. I have to be in the mood to rhyme.

Beautiful parody Hilarious really - well written. Here's mine. Daffodils by William Wordsworth I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Heavy traffic everywhere How I feel none will care Gloomy clouds saddened thoughts No rain only droughts What is dancing in the breeze Are dry leaves and hungry trees

@MALUSE High-flown verse does not arrive easily so you’ll have to wait some more! I hope it’s worth waiting for when it comes.

So for this challenge do the rhymes need to be kept the same as those in original? Interesting parody.

No, not necessarily. Only the stress pattern and the rhyme scheme should be the same.

I've been writing all day. This is too much for my brain to process.
