Have you ever known anyone that suffered from it? Have you ever known anyone that survived it and for how long? Are you a survivor? What are some of the primary causes for Mesothelioma? Do you know of anyone that has ever won a lawsuit related to Mesothelioma? How many class action lawsuits are out there in different states and countries related to Mesothelioma?

Gavel - the law
My father has a class action lawsuit against one of the asbestos makers that he has been receiving money from. He hasn't suffered from any cancer but he has lung damage, which is a result of him working on old fashioned asbestos brakes as a mechanic and also when he worked in a papermill being exposed to asbestos a lot. We're in PA, I don't know if that makes it a particular class action suit or not, just for people in Pennsylvania though. I am 100% certain if you have a good lawyer you will win a case against them. The only problem is, will you win it before you die gasping for your last breath? It's a harsh thing.

That's a great point about trying to survive the case. The legal system never seems to move fast when you are trying to protect yourself or your loved ones, but flies along at one hundred miles an hour when they are expediting a child molester out on parole or something.

Asbestos is the most common cause, so a lot of former construction workers have it. I've heard of people like the late rocker Warren Zevon getting it; he used to play in a relative's carpet store when he was a kid and supposedly got it there. Don't know if there was asbestos in the carpet or whether something else in the carpet that caused it. Apparently you can get it without having a lot of exposure to the causal elements.

I'd never heard of something like that before, but I suppose that if asbestos fibers got into carpet it would be very difficult to get out.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart). Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. There is no association between mesothelioma and smoking

Do you know if the renovation related items come from destruction (say of concrete walls with asbestos fibres) or putting in new cement products. I'm assuming old. Also, I've heard something about old pipes with asbestos lining. maybe like a clay(cement) lined pipe?
