In his song “Drift Away” Dobie Gray sings about getting lost in your rock and roll. Well, days when I am not feeling the best I literally love to get lost in my favorite rock and roll songs and really drift away. The song was written in 1970 by Mentor Williams and the original recording was by John Henry Kurtz. Later on it was recorded by soul singer Dobie Gray and suddenly became an international hit. The recording was done in 1973 and the song was certified Gold. Now as I write this I have not lost the last of my screws but it made me chuckle when I found out that “Drift Away” became a hit one more time in 2003 this time in a version done by Uncle Kracker. Yes, there is a man who is an American singer-songwriter named Matthew Shafer and has taken the stage name of Uncle Kracker. I have included the Dobie Gray version of this song here because it is my favorite. Who knows this song? Does anyone know about Uncle Kracker?
