Took my son to see Detective Pikachu yesterday and he absolutely loved it and proclaimed it was his new favorite movie. I grew up with Pokemon but wasn't really into it. I remember kids playing with the cards and things but I don't remember it ever being as popular as it is now. Ever since Pokemon Go I feel like it's really getting some new life. My son knows more about it than a lot of the people from my generation. He is absolutely Pokemon obsessed as are several of his friends. He is always coming home from school with Pokemon cards his friends give him because they have extras and he has given a few of his away as well. Some of the kids have taken to calling him Pikachu due to his Pikachu hoodie he always wears and he loves it. Needless to say when he saw there was a new Pokemon movie coming out he was excited. I don't typically go to opening weekend movies but I made an exception this one time and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There were still a ton of people going to see Avengers so it took away from Pokemon some. My son even saw one of his friends from school at the movie. My son was decked out in his Pokemon clothes. He had on his Detective Pikachu shirt, his Pokemon hat, and Pikachu hoodie on. He was even more excited to get Detective Pikachu cards that they handed out with the tickets. We got our tickets early and then went and ate at the bar/grill at the mall. While I play Pokemon Go I am not a Pokemon fanatic and just know some basic knowledge. My son knows way more than I do. He was naming off all of the characters as they popped up in the movie. I wasn't sure if I'd like the movie or not but I can't lie I thought the movie was super cute and it kept me entertained and even had a sort of twist ending. No worries I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it. I will say I don't think people will be that disappointed but then again it is all about your preferences and what you expect from it. I went in not having any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. As I said I won't give away any spoilers but I do recommend it. There are few movies I enjoy enough to watch more than once but this is one I would watch again.

I also grew up hearing my friends talking about Pokemon too and I have seen a lot of them from the TV series. And I have also played Pokemon games (GBA). It was quite addictive and the pokemons are just so cute. So after I watched the movie, I really liked it. The CGs were great in the movie, it made the pokemons cuter. And Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu made the movie more entertaining. Even if I watch this movie again, I'll still definitely enjoy it.

I'm glad you liked it. I don't buy a lot of the newer movies on DVD but I think I might actually get this on Blu-ray for my son when it comes out. it might be a birthday or Christmas gift for him.
