Love the place you’re in.

I don’t have a special place of my own. Well no, I didn’t mean that! Of course I’ve got a special place; what I mean is that everywhere has its own particular charm. Cuba, Algeria, Martinique, even Guadeloupe, all places that I love, but I cannot possibly say that one is better than the others. Well I could say it, but it would be untruthful and insulting and would undervalue those that weren’t put at the top of the list. All places are special but you can’t compare them against each other just like you can’t compare apples with oranges - they are totally different things. Comparing seems to be an inbuilt human failing, we tend to judge places by what we find elsewhere. Tonight I’m enjoying Guadeloupe; on Tuesday I’ll enjoy Martinique for what it is, and last year I loved being in mainland France just for its own sake. No need to compare. Life is not meant to be a competition, just a celebration.
