My Back is Broken

Okay I am being overly dramatic but I did hurt my back about 2 weeks back when I had to lift my 40+ pounds son into a very high tub. I lifted using my back instead of my legs like an idiot. I immediately felt pain shoot through my back and doubled over for a few minutes then resumed normal activities as it wasn't so bad. As time went on it got so much worse that on mother's day I was in tears in church from attempting to sit and stand until I just couldn't It hurt to lay in bed or move in bed, sit, stand, walk, running and jumping were out of the question and even coughing and laughing caused pain. I tried to avoid the ER as I don't have insurance but ended up giving in and going. The doctors decided I either had a strained muscle or a herniated disc. I believe it is a strained muscle because I took a day to just rest and started feeling better. They prescribed me muscle relaxers but I only take one if I am feeling super bad. I haven't rested enough and my back is starting to become more painful again. I will be taking this weekend to just rest and hopefully the problem will be completely resolved. How do you take care of back pain? Have you ever had a herniated disc or pulled something in your back?

I have several fractured discs in my neck and back @IvySaysHi . The sponges inbetween the discs are no longer there and in the lower lumbar region, the discs are pressing against the spinal cord. I went from being 5'11" down to 5'8" because of it. Walking or standing is a killer for me. It's too late for any surgeries. I live on aspirin, a Tommy Copper waist belt and have told my mind that the pain level of 15 is only an 8. I still lift 40-pound bags of cat food; 50-pound bags of feed for the donkeys and maneuver 100-pound bales of hay and I only weigh 110 pounds.

@IvySaysHi Nope; it's just me and 16 1/2 acres. If only I could train the 3 donkeys to pull the bale out of the back seat of my car. Yeah, right! Open doors would mean an open invitation to eat it all and leave more of a mess than there already is.

@IvySaysHi Let's say that it's just "better than nothing", but it does not fix the problem.

Try lying on a rubber hot water bag pressing on the sorest spot, if the bag is too hot put a cloth or face towel over it and sleep it out while doing so. You could also massage your legs ( not your back) at the same time with liniment before falling asleep, hope it works, worked for me several times but please it's not a substitute for seeking medical attention if the pain does not go away or subsides.

@IvySaysHi Herniated disc may indicate a nerve compression , I would suggest to take the symptom seriously not to scare you but trying to indicate the truth. If possible, just see if posture corrector belt can help you , be a couch potato for few days rather.
