Sisterly Love

I had a phone call on Sunday afternoon from my older sister. She hadn't been able to see me on my birthday the previous week and wanted to pop over. She asked if she could come over immediately so I instantly said yes.! I hadn't dusted or hoovered, I had no cakes or biscuits to give her but she and her partner came nonetheless. It was one of the most relaxing, hilarious and happy afternoons I've had for a long while. We had a cup of tea, a good old chinwag and an hour or so sitting in the garden watching the cattle in the meadow, playing with the cats and generally enjoying the fresh air, peace and quiet of the countryside. It just goes to prove that you don't need to spend money or prepare a three course meal when you have your family over, nor do you have to have a squeaky clean house. We were too busy laughing, reminiscing and generally enjoying each other's company to notice the dust on the mantelpiece or the dirty lunchtime plates beside the kitchen sink. There's five years difference between me and my sister - she's 5 years older than me but we've always got on well together. She was the one who was frightened I was going to die and come back to haunt her when I had meningitis at the age of 5. She's the one who used all her pocket money to buy me a toy I wanted when I came out of hospital three weeks later. She's the one who taught me French before I was 7. She's the one who used to share her crisps with me after school. She's the one I used to play Bonanza on the back of my mum's best sofa, using it as a horse. I played Little Joe and she played Hoss.. She's the one I still call when I'm upset or want to get something off my chest some 50 years later. Everyone needs a big sister.

Yes you are very true. For me, my sister is my best friend. Even though she is younger than me, she understands me better than anyone else. I am really lucky to have her as my friend and sister.
