Today I got caught in a discourse with a new colleague who seems to be a fresh college hire. The dialogues we exchanged were about the education especially the subjects studied in professional courses and engineering. I was justifying my side by saying 'reinvention of wheel' is taught in majority of the courses and it did not sound good while I had to use the same phrase more than once. Could someone suggest any other phrase or word/simile/metaphor that is closely synonymous to the phrase??

"Reinventing the wheel" is an expression which means it is a "waste a great deal of time or effort in creating something that already exists." So it could be stated as "monotonous", "nothing new", repetitive or redundant.
