Why do they want to tell me or just suggest who to follow?

I follow who I want to follow, but on social media, suggested persons to follow come up all the time. I am not on social media to find love. I already have love in my own personal life. I do social media to share ideas, concepts, stories and favorite articles that I like to look at with those of like mindedness. So far I have managed to disorientate a few, turn off others and create haters all just because I liked or followed them on social media. This is not what I signed up for on Facebook or Twitter. I have a life outside the world wide web. We all do. It's time to take our lives back and not let those who think they know us more than we know ourselves think for us.

It's good we can mute the ones that are outrageous. And delete them too. The power is in us to do so and the choice to do so should be available to anyone who chooses.

They are just suggestions anyway. I usually just ignore them all.

Well, if only more people did ignore them, otherwise the algorithms will continue to work. and they will improve over time. Until we don't know the difference from computer generated suggested so called friends and followers from the authentic ones we could spot in the outside world that is not connected to the internal world of the internet. The divide between what we perceive as the real world and what we distinguish between cyber reality and human reality. The difference is like night and day. People wake up. It's time to unplug long enough to smell the virtual coffee.

I follow other bloggers when they follow my blogs. I have quite a few friends on FB now but that is because all of my poetry groups flocked over there from G+ however when I get friend suggestions from people I have never heard of I just delete those.

The main reason I try to absorb as many friends that I can is due to the fact that I am able to share more articles about climate change and global warming and political injustice so more will be made aware of these issues because these issues in particular at the very heart of human survival as a civilization and as a species in a time when we all are moving too fast with Technology and mass production and are running out of time and resources. Yes, I guess in that way I am kind of an activist. But for good reasons.

@lookatdesktop yes there are suggestions that would always haunt and the other distractions are when the same bunch of people reappear in suggestions. And yes the recommendations are prone to exhibit those faces with mutual friends or something in your profile matching with them but the recommendation engine of facebook is not intelligent to suggest friends based on common searches/interests/preferences . In hindsight, I feel it must be adapted by facebook as well because such recommendation engine exists already in Netflix/Amazon.

I don't fall in for those suggestions. They keep pouring. I will follow only if I need to follow.

It is best to play it safe. I do as I do for now but things may have to change.
