Not all nerds make good teachers

I remember my school days not simply for good old friends and the moment I had spent with them rather I would also credit nostalgic moments to unforgettable teachers. During recess and lunch breaks , there would always be chatters and indistinct conversations about some teachers being unproductive and for also those very mentors who would be exceptionally good in their teaching skills. It did not take me long to realize that the word 'nerd' should not be confused with a good educator . Not all but I could observe some of the rare aspects what it takes to be good in teaching. An instructor who engages pupils in interactive sessions that has an active participation from the learners would always be an attribute.Besides, such a trainer may be good in communicating the concepts in best possible simplified ways , this may need him to discuss by giving some correlated examples.Besides , they would encourage variety of channels to convey their words like videos, ppt presentations and also group talks on the subject, they may dig deeper on the concepts akin to converting concept to subjects. Besides, even lectures on a complex topic would be delivered with ease by prepending the usage of 'why/how/what' in their talks as much as possible. Do you remember some teachers whom you credit for their off-beat and effective way in teaching??

@arunima25 ok you studied Bio in higher studies . I can remember some awkward semantics I came across while studying Bio in middle school like protozoa, algae, mitosis, meosis, lactobacillus (that curd bacterium),paramecium(that foot slipper shape) and amoeba -'The shapeless' and yes many of them had a hard dot in the middle that was termed nucleus .. seemed funny to always draw them in tests/exams.

@Starkinds my maths teachers were not great. While teaching trigonometry they started to tell sin,cos and tan formulas rather they must have told how is it used or how can it be used but they remain least bothered probably because the implementation of such concepts was a grey area just for them.

My Biology teacher. She was great. She understood us kids, and at the end of the year sponsored a party at the lake for all her classes. I found inspiration in that class and with her, George Ann Neil, she was single at the time so I guess her class kids subbed as her family. Really appreciated her, and I feel she inspired me to continue my education beyond high school.

@cperry2 ok that party tale really interests me and holds my suspense. Besides , is that a little rare in the US to find people continuing education beyond high schools as I could notice Americans would usually describe this in emphasizing pitch of voice that they went to high school.

@parpande truth be told, I had no interest in higher education going into my last year of school. I could not see the point. However, seeing how much there was to learn, having a teacher who thoroughly enjoyed teaching and working with her students, things changed for me that year. I joined the military out of high school and once done with that went back and got a BA. Haven't regretted that in the least. But, you are correct, there are lots of folks here that do not have a clear idea what education has to offer. I put the blame for that on the quality of education we receive. Poor at best in most places.
