You Don't Say...

I was reading an article about which state in the United States has the highest number of people who walk or bike to work every day, and you would think it would be a place like Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, or some other big city like that. But no. It was Alaska of all places. Alaska! What I found odd about it is that the state is pretty much mostly terrain with not a lot of development, does not have a high population of people, and it would seem things are farther apart than in any big city. But Alaska won it out for having the highest number of people who walk or bike to work. Interesting.

It is. I should do way more walking than I do. I actually have it in the plans to start, but the past week or so I've been suffering gout, so walking is not a good idea.

I wonder if they took it as a percentage of the population or something like that.

Not sure actually. There must be something to it, I just don't know how they arrived at this conclusion.

I think there has actually been a study that many in Alaska are pretty healthy. Lots of leisure and lots of natural habitat, less pollution and the list goes on. Not sure if it is true, but I swear I read that somewhere.

Alaska is a beautiful state, but based on the weather and the weird way the days work...I am not sure I would really want to live there. I'd love to visit though.

wow, that's interesting. I know down in Davis California, There seem to be more bicycles than cars. It is a college town (University of California, Davis) and when driving there, one must keep an eye out because these bikers think they own the roads. They will pull their two wheelers out in front of a car expecting it to stop. Most of the time cars to yield right of way, but once in a while people get hurt.
