Hurricane Flossie ...

... just doesn't have a name worthy of a hurricane. Flossie seems more to me like a name for a milk cow. Right now, though, in the Pacific off the coast of Baja California, Hurricane Flossie is churning her way toward Hawaii, trying to catch Erik. The good news is both storms are expected to weaken before they reach the island kingdom (aka: the 50th State). On the Atlantic side of things, the tropical heat waves are starting to roll off North Africa and make their way west across the ocean. Sooner rather than later, one or more will become tropical storms and eventually hurricanes. In the meantime, closer to home, Tropical Invest 95L is bringing lots of rain to Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Fortunately, high winds aloft are tearing off the top of this invest and while it keeps moving west, it should bring only rain and not turn into a major storm. Why the sudden interest in storms? This morning my built-in barometer, colloquially known as rheumatism, is telling me a big change in our weather is coming. Do you believe people with arthritis, fibro, and such afflictions can really feel changes in the weather?

I can't feel a thing; a definite perk of being plastic.

That's the first thing I thought was "It's a good name for a cow". I watched the weather channel and found to my pleasure that there really isn't anything that will cause us a problem heading our way. I do believe that people with arthritis and such can feel the changes in the weather. I am living proof. Hope we are both wrong about a storm coming.

When I last checked, there might be some heavy rain coming to the easternmost part of the east coast but nothing to worry about.

I remember a children's story about a farm and the family cow was named Flossie. I don't think I've seen the name in any other context until now.

I know it. Ever since I put my elbow out of place (or I should say that black mare put it out of place) I have felt the changes coming. You are right. That is not a good name at all. Sounds to gentle.

I thought so, too. We learned not to judge hurricanes by their name, though, when Florence went through.

@DWDavis That still sounds meaner than Flossie

I absolutely do!! My knees tell me all the time when the weather is changing. They are a bit more achy this morning than usually. Hope none of those storms amount to anything destructive.

None of the systems now loose on either ocean looks like it will be in immediate threat.

@DWDavis that's good news. We've had enough problems with flooding etc from all the storms lately. We certainly don't need a hurricane

@DWDavis Doesn't sound like good weather reports. I wonder how do they give these names to hurricanes?

I believe they use a computer list of randomly generated names. At one time, hurricanes in the US were only named after women. Now the storms can be given names of either gender.

Yes, I do believe the weather can affect those conditions. Flossie does sound like a cows name so if the hurricane moooos that'll confirm it

Hurricane Flossie well there are some pretty mean cows out there. I have arthritis and when a thunderstorm approaches my knees and tailbone thump a lot.

Flossie sounds like a character to promote dental flossing.

Yes, it does. Oddly enough, I mentioned flossing in another discussion earlier this morning.

Yes hurricane season has begun. Let's hope none our massive and deadly storms. Maybe giving names similar to Flossie would lessen their impact.

Yes I do believe they can feel changes in the weather. My Dad did often.

No I don't think that weather can change the condition of people with arthritis, fibro etc.
