A Relic of the Past?

There it sits. It was in the room last night. And the night before that. And the night before that. What? The old “landline” telephone. I check into rooms with smart TVs, USB ports, wi-fi, and all the other conveniences of the 21st century. And then, I have to move that old relic of the past off the nightstand to make room for my iPad and glasses! To some extent, it’s understandable. If you need to call the front desk for something, it’s much easier to pick up the receiver and hit “0” than to look up the phone number of the hotel, then dial it from your cell phone. But seriously, “free local phone calls??” That’s what the desk clerk told me when I checked in the other night. I’m supposed to look at my cell phone for a number then call it on the landline? And it probably won’t be answered because the person on the other end doesn’t recognize the number! I do wonder how much longer the “landline” telephones will be in hotel rooms. With the updating and “downsizing” (lots of hotels are moving away from bathtubs to showers only) it may be only a matter of time until it’s gone. And I don’t know how many will really miss it, except the relief of NOT having to move it!

I know that landlines have declined a lot in the last 5 years. In fact many companies throw in the telephone line for free with an ISP internet connection. Funny, that was once the only way we could communicate!

Must say, that is one I am not familiar with. Yes, with the changes the landlines in hotels are probably not needed.

There is not a single hotel room I have ever been in that did not have one, and I suspect they may always have one. It just seems suited to a hotel environment.

@FourWalls lol. Come to think of it, I am not sure I have seen one of those bibles recently. Either the cheap hotels don't put them in there or Gideon got tired of paying for the print runs. lol
