You Can't Compete with CHILDREN.

The rate of learning something new in children is much higher than we adults. As we grow our learning speed and so the interest to learn new things falls down. The reason is more neurological than psychological. But One can maintain a great pace of learning new things by practicing. At leisure, I try to learn new things like facts, vocabularies etc.
