How long should a reasonable relationship last before engagement and marriage?

I know a couple who married eleven days after they met each other and they've been together for 20+ years. I also know a couple who dated for two years and then were engaged for two before finally marrying. I also know a couple who became engaged after one month but waited a year and a half to be married. It really depends on the couple. Find out your needs and decide for yourself.

I guess it depends on the couple ... If you don't stick with the traditional 6 month to one year engagement does that mean your relationship is doomed ?? I don't think so and I think people should look at their own needs not what others think is right

I think it depends on the person. I met my husband when I was young but I knew I would marry him, even though we knew we would marry 'one day' we didn't rush anything because the timing was right then. Perfect world: 1 year before engagement, 1 year long engagement!
