Insulin sensitizing agents used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Two classes of oral hypoglycemia agents currently used in worldwide to improve the action of insulin. These are Thiazolidinediones (TZD) and Metformin. Moreover the TZD are true insulin sensitizers. Yet metformin has not been proving the sensitivity of insulin action so it is called insulin sparing drug. In some patients TZD are not suitable for fluid keeping and weight gain. Fatty acid is believed to be a major contributor to insulin resistance in skeletal muscles and the liver. One of the main actions on TZD is lower circulating level of fatty acids.
