"Flawless" is a British fictional crime movie that was released in 2007. The film was met with mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office. With a budget of $20 million the return was only $6 million; however, it did only have a limited release in the United States. Perhaps the reception might have been much better here? CAST Michael Caine - Mr. Hobbs Demi Moore - Laura Quinn Lambert Wilson - Finch Joss Ackland - Milton Kendrick Ashtoncroft Constantine Gregory - Dmitriev Ahmed Ayman - Bondok Natalie Dormer-Cassis - The Reporter The movie opens with a reporter entering a restaurant to interview Laura Quinn who was the only women to have ever been a manager at the London Diamond Corporation. Quinn places a box on the table with a huge diamond in it. Already my interest has been piqued. She looks the reporter in the eyes and says, "I stole it". The reporter assumes that Ms. Quinn has just been released from a long stint in prison. Flash back to 1960. Even though she is intellectually superior to her male co-workers, Laura has been passed over for a promotion for the sixth time. Quinn is a typical female that is looking to advance herself in 1960. She dresses for success. She smokes too much; and she works too hard. All to no avail. Mr. Hobbs, the janitor, might as well be invisible for as much as he is noticed; however, he uses this to his advantage...listening, looking at papers that have been thrown away...and he has learned something that is of great importance to Laura Quinn. Hobbs tells her that she is going to be fired. Incredulous, she listens as Hobbs fills her in on a plot to steal enough diamonds to make them rich, but not enough to be missed. She admits to herself that she has too few other professional prospects and is considered old by her co-workers. She agrees to the heist. I found the movie to be very interesting, the characters believable; but the plot was a little far-fetched. However, I've seen the movie twice and would like to watch it again. Michael Caine plays a man who is tired of working, wants to retire; but he's not old enough and doesn't have enough funds to do so. Demi Moore plays a frustrated woman working in the 60s when women did not hold many positions of authority or get the promotions that they were due. The critics may not have liked this movie; but I did. The patrons didn't show up at the movie theaters...I think that they may have missed a good film. Your best bet to find this move might be on a streaming service, YouTube or Amazon. This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Pixabay
