A Good Book

Lately, I've found it difficult to find a book that I can really get into. I find myself reading (or listening to) the first few chapters and then putting it aside. It's just not for me. But I've stumbled upon a book I just can't get enough of and I'm thrilled! This book is called, "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt. I originally heard about it because a movie has been released and it's based on this book. The book was originally published in 2013. It tells the story of a teenage boy who loses his mother in a terrorist bombing in an art museum. From there, we get to see what happens to him and where he goes and how he forms his life. Due to the circumstances, the story begins with a lot of sadness and depression and I, personally, found this book to have wonderful ideas for coping with both. Even at the saddest parts of the book, I've found it uplifting. And it's consumed me so much! I borrowed the audio book from the library and have been listening to it on my phone. There was a day that I listened to it off and on from late afternoon until I went to bed! That's never happened before. Needless to say, I highly recommend the book. I don't know much about the movie but I'll probably watch it at some point just to see what their version of the characters look like and how they sound, since I have them all in my head already. Peace Claudia

Do you find you usually prefer the book to the movie or vice versa? For me, it's often whichever I saw/read first.

@CRK109 That makes sense to me. And it's easier to reread the book if you've missed any part of it.

Most of the time, I prefer the books because there is so much more material there. The movie can only capture so much of the story and the book gives, as they say, the rest of the story!

It takes a lot to get me interested in a book also. I might this one I wrote about in my last discussion called "The Secret" . The riddles and things might be interesting.

You really seem to love that book. Do you just listen to books or also read them?

I usually read books, but lately I've slowed down so much in my reading that I thought having someone read a book to me might be nice. I guess I've missed having someone read to me more than I realized! lol

I understand perfectly. During the cold of winter, especially on snowy days, I love being wrapped in a warm blanket with a cup of tea and a good book in my hands. With an audio book, I can be working on a craft while having someone read a story to me. So I'm good both ways.
