Day 99 Promise 130 1 Chronicles 17:4 Go and tell David my servant, ‘Thus says the LORD, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in: 5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. 6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spoke I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, ‘Why have ye not built me a house of cedars?’ 7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that you should be ruler over my people Israel: 8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth. 9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them anymore, as at the beginning, 10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover, I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore, I tell thee that the LORD will build thee a house. 11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him who was before thee: 14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom forever: and his throne shall be established forevermore.’ Did you receive a great honor that affected not only your life but also the lives of your children and the generations to follow? David was a man after God’s own heart. He was Israel’s psalmist and king. He loved God with his whole heart, mind, and strength and wanted to build God a temple where he could dwell forever. Yet God told him not to build Him a house. Instead, God told David, He would bless his seed, and his son would build a house for Him to dwell among them. God further told David he would have a son sit on his throne forever. History shows the last king to sit on David’s throne was Jehoiachin when Judah went into captivity in Babylon. Did God break His promise to establish David’s throne forever? No. Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou who art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. This was the same promise God gave David to have a son sit on his throne forever. Yet, when the angel talked to Mary, God added to the promise when he told her, His kingdom would be eternal. As you know, the promise has not seen fulfillment yet. A king doesn’t sit on the throne in Israel. There is a prime minister over the people. Yet, God’s Word is true. God will establish David’s throne and set Jesus the Messiah of Israel on David’s throne and His reign will never end. As Christians, you know God keeps His promises. People fall short and set aside God’s promises and believe that because there isn’t a king of the line of David on a throne in Israel that the promise was only for the time before Israel’s exile in Babylon and Assyria. God told David there would be a son on his throne forever. God told Mary her Son would sit on David’s throne forever. Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he who sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, ‘Write: for these words are true and faithful.’ Man is corrupt. God promised His people a Savior who would bring them back into a right relationship with Him. God’s plan was two-fold. For God’s people to have a perfect relationship with Him, He needed to make a sacrifice for the people’s sin. That could only happen with a pure blood sacrifice. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world as the spotless lamb of God. He would sacrifice Him for the sins of the world and raise Him to life on the third day. Only then could God fulfill the other half of His plan to have His Son sit on David’s throne forever. Satan did everything he could to stop God’s plan of salvation. He caused Israel to sin against God so they went into captivity. He caused kingdoms to rise and conquer Israel so they couldn’t put a king on the throne of David, a king who came from the tribe of Judah. Satan is still at work in the world today to keep anyone from becoming a king in Israel. Yet, there will come a day when God will defeat Satan and sentence him forever into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. Then God will establish His Son, Jesus, as King of Kings and Lord of LORDS. Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he who sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Christians everywhere wait for the day when God fulfills His promise to put His Son, Jesus, on David’s throne. Then God’s kingdom will never end. Let’s pray: Father, Your Word is true. What You said, You will do. Help me stand on Your Word as faithful and true, knowing that one day Jesus will return. Satan will be sentenced and sent to the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, and Jesus will sit on David’s throne forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
