I've just been reading an article from the April 27, 1963 issue of TV Guide. The title was "Biography Of a Loser", and it concerned an actor who made a career out of never winning. Do you know his name? Here are some clues: He was one of the stars of a weekly TV series that ran on CBS from 1957 to 1966. The writer of the article I read couldn't resist calling him Ham Burger. If you haven't figured it out yet, perhaps the initials PM mean something to you. SPOILER ALERT! Here's the answer: The actor who won by losing was, of course, William Talman, who played District Attorney Hamilton Burger (Ham Burger) on the Perry Mason show. His job was to look extremely silly at the end of every episode when Raymond Burr as Mason revealed the real killer to be someone DA Burger never even suspected. I wish I could get paid for looking silly. I'd be very rich by now.
