Have you ever provoked someone's road rage?

Have you ever been on the receiving end of someone's road rage? I’ve never had someone go absolutely bonkers with anger at me for something I did while driving, but there have been a number of times when I could see another driver mouthing nasty words at me. I remember one time, for example, when another driver and I were both trying to merge from two lanes into one. He sped up trying to get in ahead of me, but I could see that I had just enough of a positional advantage that if I sped up too, he’d have no choice but to back off. Yes, I got there first, and it felt like I “won” the competition. But now I realize that it was a stupid thing to do. In today’s world road rage is all too real, and it’s crazy to deliberately put yourself in a position where you might provoke it. I’m wiser now. Instead of trying to win the competition to get ahead of somebody else, I’ve decided I want to win the competition to be the most courteous driver on the road. I have experienced people getting angry and they are nuts. The most common thing that happens is someone waiting behind me for a turn and they hysterically lay on the horn for me to go. Apparently they don't care if I hit a pedestrian or oncoming car as long as they can make the turn.

I've seen people give me sign language as they pass me and their mouth is going. I'm like, what did I do, literally, as they speed up to get away from me. I shrug my shoulders and let them be.

Many years ago, someone honked at me but I ignored them. One of my great fears is being shot by a road raging crazy nut.

I don't drive, but I have witnessed this sort of thing with drivers as I walk down the sidewalk. Drivers beeping at each other, flipping each other off, yelling out the window... Yet none of think or would consider that they, themselves are in the wrong. I'll never understand drivers.
