Caroling in the supermarket

There is a group of carolers in the supermarket. They have a small stage with microphone where they sing nice Christmas songs. Their companions were offering envelopes to the customers who come in. I don't know what to feel but definitely I seem not to like the idea.

I would not like either, Christmas is only a big business.

@Alexandoy It is for me too, I cannot stand to see how much it is commercialized.

@Alexandoy Sometimes I think the spirit isn't there any more, like caroling has become a tool to make money and the real essence of it just appears to be lost.

The envelope is empty. If I accept it then I have to put money and return it to them.

@amitkokiladitya yeah, it is like begging for donations.

It would be nice if they weren't asking for donations.

That's true. Instead of the people watching their little show, the public is turned off because when you stand near the stage, their attendants would hand you the empty envelope for their solicitation.

I would be annoyed by carolers in a store.

It is similar to the Salvation Army with their pail for donations. But the style here is the passing of the envelope so you can place the money inside it.

They should have just placed a box for those who want to give. Giving out envelopes seems obliging the recipient to give. We went to the mall here in NZ today and we saw middle-aged and mature women singing beautiful Christmas songs on the corridor and I did not notice any box or anyone from them soliciting donations. I think they just sang to entertain in the spirit of Christmas. I took a photo of them.

In the olden days carolers in the public places like parks sing for entertainment only. But now it is always about money. It is really sad that people are using the occasion for taking advantage of the generosity of others.

@sunrisefan for sure almost everything about Christmas here is for commercialism purposes. When there are activities for the public that is sponsored by the mayor then you already know that it's for their commercial (political) purposes.

What I don't like is using Christmas for asking money.

What do they have in envelopes.

The envelope says "love offering" which means donation. When you get the envelope then you have to put money and return it to them.

It might be Quiboloys carollers who keep on asking donations.

No, they look like another sect. I really don't know. From what I know Quiboloy's carolers are Latina beauties.
