Day 172 Promise 223 Psalm 89:14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. 15 Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. 16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. 17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favor our horn shall be exalted. 18 For the LORD is our defense; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. Justice and judgment is the habitation of Your throne: mercy and truth go before Your face. Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound: they walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name, they rejoice all the day: and in Your righteousness will they be exalted. For You are the glory of their strength: and in Your favor our power is exalted. For the LORD is our defense; the Holy One of Israel is our King. As you can see, I rewrote the above passage for clarity and understanding. Often, people complain they don’t understand the Bible because the words aren’t common to today’s language. What was common then is obsolete today or has a different meaning. I used Strong’s Concordance for the meaning of horn which means corner, peak, power. In the instance of this passage, power makes the most sense. Where do you find strength and blessing? Many people look at what they can do, their accomplishments and give the glory of them to themselves. Ethan the Ezrahite, the author of this psalm, found strength and blessing in God. He knew the favor or grace he received came from God. It was God’s favor, mercy, strength, justice, and judgment that flowed through him and gave him the reason to rejoice. As he did, God blessed him. Ethan found the more he exalted God the more favor and power God gave him. As Christians, you have power through Jesus’ blood. Jesus went to the cross and took all our sins on Himself so we could stand forgiven in God’s presence. Through God’s mercy and grace on your life, you can rejoice as Ethan did and exalt the name of Jesus. All your accomplishments, all your hopes, and dreams realized, everything you received from His hand is God’s blessing to you. God’s promise is to bless you when you give Him the glory for all He did in you. Will you be like Ethan and give God the glory for everything you have? Let’s pray: Father, forgive me if I looked at my accomplishments as my own. Let me rejoice in what You did in and through me and give You glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
