Katie Sowers is the first female of any type of coach to make it to the Superbowl. She also the first one that is openly gay. Football has come a long way in a short time if you think about it. There was a time that women involved in football at all was frowned upon and now we have a female referee and a female coach. Katie is not a full fledged coach but an assistant to the Offensive Line Coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Not that that matters too much. She worked her butt off to get where she is and yet declines all interviews and appearances until after she wins the Superbowl. She's very dedicated and determined. So much of those two things that I have no doubt that she will be a full coach in the future and break another glass ceiling. *picture from google

I don't watch football anymore but good for her. I have always felt who cares male or female straight or gay, do those things really matter? Can the person do the job and are they the best person available to do the job? Then give them the job.

I feel the same way. They're taking another look at the Rooney Rule which personally I think has outlived its usefulness.

@JordanLader Not sure I know what the Rooney Rule is, I might have to look that up.

@Bensen32 It requires whoever hires coaches that they have to interview minorities. They don't mention hiring I don't think but you HAVE to interview a certain number. The last time they brought it up they mentioned that there still aren't many minorities coaching. In my opinion I don't think that a person should be hired based on skin color or nationality.

good for her, but he being gay has nothing to do with her success. her talent is what matters.

Technically neither does being a woman but it's history making so they celebrate.
