Two males who were driving an ATV in Warren Maine are thankful to have been rescued by two Knox County Sheriff's officers as well as unidentified swimmer who was part of the rescue team on Saturday evening. The ATV fell into the icy Crawford Pond on Saturday evening when it fell off of the road by accident.. Thanks to an emergency call to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Knox County Tim Carroll and Sergeant Arthur Smith went to the place of the auto accident where they received help from a swimmer who was wearing a wet suit and an EMT team member who used ropes to get the two males out of the icy pond before they would have passed away from drowning in the pond. Both males were taken to local area hospitals where the driver of the ATV who was Craig Dennison and his passenger Donald Holbrook who are in stable condition while Holbrook is in stable but serious condition. Sergeant Smith is gaining high praise from his boss Sheriff Carroll for his act of bravery risking his life to save the lives of two strangers. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the authorities to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the auto accident. The most likely cause of the accident in my view is that the driver did underestimate the amount of ice on the road.

@rakski It is hard for rescuers to see at night without special equipment like lighting.

The title keeps me wondering why Males was used to describe the victims. At first I thought they were animals, dogs or male cats. Why not 2 Men? Just curious, no offense meant.

I agree with you since many police officers have gone on record saying the hardest part of their job is to break bad news to the families of the deceased.

Police officers do more than make arrests, they save lives. Glad the guys were rescued and are ok, you never know where danger presents itself

They are lucky to be alive. Rescuing someone from a frozen lake or pond is very risky.

Getting into a cold lake or water is not for the timid.

So many scattered frozen ponds and other bodies of water all through out maine and new england in general.i once lived in sanford maine amd it was so cool you could rent a metal shack over night on the frozen water there was a pre made hole ready for fishing and it came equipped with a heater and everything! It was super cool and very very cold, even with the heater!
