Tuesday & Wednesday at the Childcare Course.....Oh and a gunman & druggies....

Perth, Australia
February 29, 2020 9:53am CST
Tuesday was a good day at the Childcare Course but was a busy day. Lots to read through, lots to write and we all practised changing nappies on baby dolls again. Good day but I was very nervous this time! I wasn't fully aware of how bad this suburb was. On the Monday there was a gunman driving around shooting and frightening people. This took place literally around the corner from where my class is. And a lot of places around this area were under lock down. So I was nervous walking around that area. Same with Wednesday but Wednesday was still a good day. Was very easy. We watched a documentary about babies which....was alright. The girl next to me was bored out of her mind though. Every time I looked at her she was sinking lower and lower into her chair. Gave me the giggles. After that we just did arts and crafts all day. We had to create things related to nursery rhymes. As you can see in the picture, I coloured in / created that for the nursery rhyme "5 Little Ducks." I picked that because I sang that a lot as a little girl. The teacher printed out a lot of things we could colour including these ducks but I drew the eyes on and coloured them in. At lunchtime, the girls and I encountered a woman who was high on some type of drug. She eventually left but then we saw 3 different men walking around who were either drunk or high because they were walking oddly and not straight. One was yelling something and from what I saw, he was yelling at no one. Then after class, as I was walking to the train station I was stopped by another druggy ( you can just tell ) who asked me for money. I explained that I only had money for public transport and he seemed cool with that thank goodness. Turns out he was catching the same train as me but as he sat there in the train he started singing and laughing very loudly. Then threw a can of whatever he was drinking around on the train. Don't get me wrong! I'm in no way judging these people! But during lunch time these girls were explaining how bad this area is since they live there and how many times they have been attacked or threatened for not giving up their money. So it does worry me! A LOT of police cars circle the suburb I'm in. I was wondering why this was so weeks ago when I first started this course. Now I know why!

I sure hope you don't get a job working in that area once you complete the course! I would worry too much about your safety!

@VivaLaDani13 What a relief to hear that! Otherwise, I would be worried about your safety if you had to work in that bad area.

@moffittjc aw thank you Jeff. Nah, there is no way I want to work in that area. I will work closer to my home.

@moffittjc Even if it wasn't a bad area, I would still pick closer to my home as the travel wouldn't be beneficial to me so often.

I'm glad you're home safe. I love your ducks. I'm sure the children you work with will like your artistic flare. That neighborhood isn't safe.

I hadn't realised things were so bad in some suburb. I must be living under a rock. How much longer does your course go?

@JudyEv It sure is. Very long wait yet at the same time, for me mentally, the two days a week suits me better. So I'm ok with that for now. Thank you, I will PM you now. No worries if you don't know it. Just curious if you do.

I find it strange that a childcare course centre is situated in such an area. Or maybe they want the trainees to be experienced since they know what terror some kids can be.

@Daljinder Not only that, there is an actual Childcare Centre with little children right across the road from my class. They were all under lock down too. I read not too long ago that that gunman was caught! That's good at least! LMAO! Right on!

@VivaLaDani13 I do not blame you for not walking around there with a gunman close by. That is a cute idea using popsicle sticks. Does not sound like a good area where you class is. I hope he did not get off at your stop. Now, you know why the police are around there a lot.
