I’m Tired of the Shaming

Unfortunately I’ve heard it a lot, you should have saved, but some of us are on limited incomes, after we pay our rent, utilities and groceries we are lucky to have a few dollars to our name, over three quarters of what I earn goes to rent, the rest goes to utilities, food and other essentials, thankfully I keep my pantry, my fridge, freezer as well as my chest freezer pretty stocked. I’m glad for all of those who are in a position to save, that’s awesome, but unfortunately not everyone can.

I am shocked at the privileged attitude I have seen from a few mylotters. Most people live paycheck to paycheck, and there is nothing to save. Both my parents, worked for non profits (Christian ministry), and they barely paid their bills. It's nice that some are set financially. But oh my word, how out of touch are some people?!

People are set financially, most of the time, not because they make a lot of money, but because they are mindful of money enough to know where to find more of it no matter how little of it they have to work with. The ones, from my experience, who are out of touch, are the ones who truly believe they cannot save money. Because it is simply not true.

@porwest I've seen people who have saved but then something tragic happens those savings got sucked up simply to survive and they are struggling. In the past year I've known several in similar circumstances where a tragic situation nearly broke them despite their savings. As I said, I have a roof over my head, food in my belly, and the things I need to survive so I'm okay, but I'm also very well aware that not everyone is.,,

Yes, it is easy for those with plenty to pick on those who don't have as much. We can only do what we can do.

I don't think it is picking on people so much as it is trying to make uneducated people see the light. Everyone can save. No matter how big the bills or no matter how small the paycheck. Everyone can. I think people just don't want to listen to those who know the truth and have decided to accept their personal financial woes because doing something is harder than ignoring something.

I know what you mean. We are struggling to get by. And it's not easy. Sure it is easy for some to judge, give advice and all, but it's not so easy when you have just enough.

It really is, and people really need to think, things happen that prevent some from saving!

nothing for you to be ashamed of. those who are trying to shame you should be the ones who are to be ashamed. ashamed for not understanding your situation. ashamed for not offering assistance. ashamed for not being humble.

Thank you, and thankfully I’m okay, all my bills are paid, my fridge, both freezers, pantry and cabinets are stocked, I have what I need so I’m blessed, but there are those who are truly struggling and being made to feel guilty for doing so, which isn’t cool!

Many people aren't in a position to save and live paycheck to paycheck. Don't be ashamed . Many of us are in the same boat

That is a terrible thing. I'm sure the government will step in and help soon.

I’m fine for now, all my bills are paid, I have a roof over my head and power, sadly that’s not the case for everyone. On Facebook and other places I keep hearing every American needs to have three months of savings and it’s there fault if they don’t but situations vary!

People should not talk about what they have no knowledge of.

People should never shame anyone for having difficulty saving. However, the idea that someone, even on a very limited budget, cannot save? It's BS. Everyone can. It just takes understanding certain concepts and ideas about money. In every single budget big or small there is wasted money. Those who say they cannot save are simply not looking for it. Don't SHAME someone. TEACH them how to do it and where to find the money to save. That's my method. It's there. The money. To save. It IS there. Trust me.
