Happy March 32nd! I like the meme on Facebook that says, “April Fools Day is canceled this year, because NO prank can outdo what we’re really living through.” Here’s another song with a quarantine-appropriate title to hopefully bring a smile to your face (and maybe even your ears). #11: Closing Time - Lyle Lovett Andria’s ears won’t smile. This is country, so it’ll make her brain hurt. (Joke between two friends.) Yep, that’s pretty much the world right now. We’re closed. (There’s even a meme on Facebook from National Lampoon’s Vacation that says that.) And this song? There’s an air of desperation and loneliness in this song, where all the regulars meet and have to be almost physically removed from the bar when it closes (“unplug them people and send them home”). And JJ will appreciate the joke about the sound man in the second verse. The bright spot about this song? The bar reopens eventually...and so will we. He always has a somber expression.

He’s also very dry. Makes things funnier (like his introduction to “L.A. County”: “boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy shoots girl.”)

Even though country makes my ears hurt too, believe it or not I know this song and the artist...but not together.
