In These Uncertain Times Consider God

Government lockdowns and stay at home restrictions are inciting my mind to many random thoughts. At least it's a safer pastime than protesting in the streets like some mindless Michigan morons. Although I was raised in the Catholic faith, I have long abandoned my early religious beliefs. But in these unsettling times that may turn into an apocalyptic plague of biblical proportion, even an atheist can turn into a believer. Consider that not all prayers are answered by "God". Is this proof he exists or does not exist? People should stop citing miraculous occurrences or unexplained phenomena as evidence of God's benevolence or wrath. They are just events our intelligence has not yet reached the capacity to comprehend although it might be able to in the future. We should put "religious faith" into a proper perspective. Not being overly serious about it as to be easily offended if others do not agree with us. Instead, look at religion in times of need as a security blanket or comfort food. Photo: Pixabay

Same as you, raised in the Catholic faith, but no more religious at all. Religion is surely like a security blanket in difficult times. My Italian grandmother had a saying "when your body fails, your faith increases".

How true the words of your grandmother. Failing health can motivate us to seek spiritual guidance.

Prayer is very useful for us these troubled times. Helped me refocus and take my mind off some stuffs. Plus it help me get a bit of enlightenment.

Religion as a comfort is something I have no issue with despite never resorting it to myself. I do, however, object when I'm told this is somehow God's plan and/or it is God's way of teaching us some sort of lesson.

@josie_ I'm not going to blame God as I don't believe there is a God. In my opinion rather than man being made in God's image it's more a case of God having been made in man's image.

@WorDazza _ In a sense "God" exists because of man's need for someone to blame for human shortcomings. While worshipping him I attribute to a guilt complex that refuses to accept the idea of man's intelligent capabilities...and also false humility.

There is no arguing that religion has and continues to provide comfort to many in difficult times. The flip side is it has also been a hindrance to progressive thoughts that improve and save human lives. Blame the religious institutions not "God".

We all need a respite from overly "thinking", given these are not normal times.

I like the saying (in the Bible), 'only the sicks need the doctors'. I think the same, let those who need regligions/God, come searching for religions/God. (I do need God to be with me every now and then.)

I have never believed in God, but for some reason, I would like to believe in him. I also like the idea of the security blanket, comfort food, or big brother, to help me out at times. Does God exist, or not, and why would I want God to exist? Existence is a phenomenon of the mind recognising something that it thinks is existence. As God, if he exists, exists outside of all minds, as love alone, no mind can ever realise God, see God, or prove God's existence to itself. I want to believe because the love in me yearns to reconnect to the underlying real source of real love, or to God. If love exists, and if we feel it, so we feel God existing too, because as they say, God is love, and love is God. The fact that we can love, and are not just all robots, puts a capital "E" on existence to me, I call this capital "E", God for now, until a computer can be such a capital "E" too, but I can never ever see myself as ever loving a robot though, like I have loved my mum.

We must never cease to pray because he did not answer us the way we would like. We need to show patience, when it comes to God. Amen

Given the mess people keep creating on Earth, I would think it's God who has shown more patience with us.
