What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up

Happy Saturday Everyone. finally....a sunny day here today. So much rain just seems to make the days more dismal than they already are. I don't think it will be nice enough to sit outside today but at least it's nice having the shining and the house is so bright. Nothing much planned for today. Seems like one day just runs into the next. Yesterday I talked to my Aunt for awhile and that was a nice chat. We caught up on all the family news and thankfully everyone is well. This morning I had a Facebook chat with my youngest granddaughter (she's 10) and it made me miss her all the more. But I'm happy that we have the technology to keep in touch and I know one day we'll all be together again. She told me that she's been baking and loves to bake so much that she would love to own a bakery one day. Pretty good aspirations but we all know that what you want to do at 10 years old is rarely what we do as an adult. It's funny because her sister took horseback riding lessons at the same age and wanted to own a horse farm when she grew up. Now she's almost 16 yrs old and it's the furthest thing from her mind So this brings to mind my question for the day... Did you follow through on your career from when you were young?

My options as a child were teacher or meteorologist. I am a weather geek, and I guess I’m teaching people about country music.

I wanted to be a typewriter. Yes, that was what I wrote in a piece of paper given to our teacher when I was 11 years old. She wanted us to write what we want to be when we grow up, anonymously. So we didn´t write our names on our papers. Thankfully they didn´t know me because my classmates were laughing at that time. What I really wanted to say was that I wanted to be a writer but didn´t know the term.

That is so funny! Did you pursue any type of writing as an adult?

I wanted to be an air hostess. It seemed glamorous but now I've flown a few times, it's really nothing more than waitressing at high altitudes.

It's lovely that they have ambitions. I was in love with the book Jo's Boys (after little women) and I wanted to run an orphanage!

When I was younger, I said I want to be a princess! Now I'm a writer and I can write about it if I want to. I guess it's not bad at all!

I always wanted to serve as I grew up. For a while I thought it would be nice to be a nurse, I even volunteered as a candy striper, and while I was in college I worked part time as a nurse's aide in an old age home.

I think I would have been a good teacher, but I really always wanted to be a wife and mother. And I am blessed to be those, plus grandmother!

I did until I went into the Navy. I wanted to be a nurse. I took a nurse aide course after high school and did very well with it. I wanted to go to Corps School in the Navy, but missed it by 5 points on my AGT-ARI test that placed you in your vocation. Mine ended up as OJT Radio. I missed only 1 point for that school. Go figure. I don't know what AGT stands for anymore but ARI is arithmetic. So, I'm a jack of all trades and master of none = low income. Underlying everything was the desire to write. I started when I was 8. Now, I'm an author. I guess that's what I was supposed to do all along.

I actually did mine sort of. When I was little I wanted to be an "Armyman". Well I didn't become an "Armyman" but I did become a Marine. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps Infantry. So I more less did what I wanted to do.
