i am soory to hear that, small cell lung cancer is the most malignant lung cancer. non small cell lung cancer includes squamous cell lung cancer, large cell lung cancer and adenocarcinoma of lung. i think his/her mother maybe suffer from adenocarcinoma of lung and it can be resected by surgery operation. No matter what lung cancer,if the metastases occur, the patients will lost the opportunities for surgery operation. his/her mother can choose the Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.

There is alot of good information on the internet regarding lung cancer as well as numerous message boards with real stories including survival stories for those with advanced stages of lung cancer as well as various treatment options. It can be very confusing, but it can also give your friend a multitude of information they can discuss with their doctor. Here is one of many sites that I found. http://www.lungcancerfocus.com/?spg=PPC&sky=hty|goo|lungcancerfocus|lung|spon-lung|lung|lung+cancer+all
